John was born in 1979 in Sacramento, California. At a young age John understood the importance of hard work and perseverance. He grew up on a small ranch, learning to raise animals and tend a small crop. And from the time he was eight, John worked with his father to build, reconstruct, and remodel houses.
At twenty-one years of age John married. Soon after, he took a job with the California Department of Corrections working at Folsom Prison. In 2005, John, his wife Robyn, and their two sons moved to Abilene, Texas. This move took them away from close family and friends, but was necessary. California, John stated, “offered minimal opportunity, and was a horrible place to raise our kids. Robyn and I did not believe they would be safe or well educated in the public school system. We moved to Texas so our boys could learn the values and morals we believed were essential.” Within weeks of their move to Abilene, John began working for the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department. Then, in 2009 he began work in the Insurance Industry as an independent contractor.
During this time, John’s concern for his country also grew. He saw that the government was taking more and more rights from the people. Freedom of speech became censored, free choice and equal opportunity became harassment, lies, and statistics. The people were being lost in political games of power-grabbing and bribery.
“The government should listen to its citizens. Each person should have the opportunity for life, liberty, and pursuits of happiness for themselves and their loved ones. One of my favorite quotes was by John Adams. He said, ‘I must study politics and war so that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy.’ If those in leadership of our country are not interested in adhering to the limitations of the Constitution, then it is my duty to step up and fight to correct them. As any father should, I take this stand for my children. I ask nothing less of others.”
Texans have always fought for liberty. As Texans and Americans we must remember those battles fought for true freedom, and continue to fight those battles. America can always use more people willing to stand, how will you?
